Cori's Story

I am a woman in Recovery. My sobriety date is 3/17/2015. My Recovery is important to me as I would not have the life I have today without it. The last day I drank was the last day I drove drunk and blacked out. When I became aware I was in Grand Traverse County Jail, I knew there was only one reason why I was there, and that there would be serious consequences this time. This was my 2nd DUI. I had to decide at that very moment what was I going to do. I decided to do whatever it was to NOT go back to jail AGAIN. So, at first, it was to follow what I needed to do for probation, AA meetings, blow 2x a day, drug tests, and no driver's license. A year later, I got an interlock device installed and had that for 5 years. I am now proud to say I have a Chauffeur's License. In my time thus far in Recovery, I was able to go back and I Graduated in 2018 with my High School Diploma. I have had the opportunity to take some wonderful vacations with my family. I have had the opportunity to go to some recovery events with fellow friends in recovery. Speak at 217 Recovery Stories part 3.

A wise man once told me in my first year of recovery that I needed to redefine my definition of FUN. Today I think I have. I will continue to learn and adventure and help others as best I can.
