Are You Ready to Let Your Actions Do the Talking?

"Action speaks; words don't." What does this really mean?

How many times have you said something but your actions are different?

I have experienced this countless times. People, including me, have talked the talk but failed to deliver with their actions. This leads most of the time to disappointment because expectations are not met. So how can we change our mindset to have impactful actions? The first thing I learned in soberity was that I had to be impecable to my word. When I said I was going to pick up my daughter after work, I went and picked her up. I use this example because when I was drinking and got out of work at 10 pm, I would not go get her, and I would go to the bar and drink all night.

Think about the last time someone broke a promise or failed to meet your expectations. It happens. Most of the time, I have my expectations set too high or don't tell them how I want it done. But when someone genuinely follows through and holds to their word, it builds trust. By leading with action, you pave the path for your actions to speak, not just your words. The energy generated by this can inspire others to do the action. It’s in these moments that real progress occurs. Just like our recovery. Have you ever met someone who claims, "I won't ever drink again!," yet by the end of the work shift, we are making plans with friends to meet at the bar after work! This is a clear example of how words can not hold to our actions. True change means commitment, and that commitment involves daily effort and discipline.

Think of the relationships we had when drinking........ If you claim to value the friendships we had, but only reach out when you need something or when things are not going well, but then when they help and we are good again, we don't call, come around, or help when they might need us. This damages the trust people have for us as we are not reliable. Showing up for others, whether it’s making that phone call, going to a meeting, or lending a helping hand, speaks volumes. especially to our family when we say we are going to be there, we show up on time let me add that we are presentable, and we just enjoy our time, not looking to manipulate to get something from them.

Ultimately, actions hold far more power than words alone. Whether in our personal relationships, career goals, or community efforts, prioritizing action sets off a chain reaction of trust, authenticity, and fulfillment. Remember, it’s not just what you say, but how you act that truly defines you. Happy Friday, peace and love, Cori
