Helping

Writer's picture: Justin BurkeJustin Burke

This week I have tried to make a difference. It started by picking someone up from treatment who I have been trying to get there now for a couple of years. To watch this person grow so much over those couple of years is a remarkable journey. This frame of mind of helping people has stuck with me a lot lately.

217 Recovery went to UFAM at The State Capitol. There I met a lot of people who never heard of 217 Recovery. I had to explain what we do about 500 times. But this time was different. I felt very honored to be there and tell everyone what we do. People were very pleased with what we do and said that they wished the whole state could be on board with helping people get to treatment. This is a major gap in services.

Today I'm glad to say I'm part of the solution and not the problem anymore. For so many years I was just running and ripping. Now I am just at peace with life and trying to be a better person than I was the day before.
