Starting Over

Writer's picture: Justin BurkeJustin Burke

So today I had a very interesting day. It was about trying to help someone. I had to tell them about my recovery story. I was hoping to change their mind about what they wanted to do regarding their next step in life. I told them how I had to change people, places, and things to improve my life. This also meant I wouldn't see my daughter for a few years. It was very hard, but I had to make sure I was a better person.

"The only person who can pull me down is myself, and I'm not going to let myself pull me down anymore."– C. JoyBell

You can't begin to help others right away. You must learn to take care of yourself first. After that things will begin to fall into place just as our higher power wants them to. We can't force things at all, or they will fall apart. Then we wonder why they fell apart but the truth is we may never fully know.

"Lighten up on yourself. No one is perfect. Gently accept your humanness."–Deborah Day

So, it is highly important to do the right thing and keep your backyard clean. Learn to talk about your feelings and get comfortable doing that. With this, we begin the healing process. Then your road to recovery begins.
